About Me

Hello! I'm Toby Morgan, an undergraduate student studying Computer Games Design at the University of Staffordshire. Having completed my first (and nearly second) year, I've gained and honed a variety of skills that have fuelled my passion for game design and development.

This page is dedicated to sharing my journey, highlighting the experiences and influences that have shaped my path, and giving you a glimpse into who I am.

Computer games have always been an integral part of my life growing up. From the minute I was able to comprehend putting inputs into a controller I've been playing games. Even back then when I had no idea how much thought and detail goes into game development I had dreams of being a game designer one day.

University

(Batchelor of Science)

I'm currently an undergraduate student studying Computer Games Design at the University of Staffordshire. During my time here so far I have gained brand new skills and continued to build upon the fundamentals that I had gained at college level.

I completed six modules throughout the first year with an average score of 78. I was also able to achieve a grade of 94 in the project management module which I am particularly proud of.

To view examples of my work completed at university so far please see "Portfolio" and "Blogs" at the top of this page.

College

(BTEC)

Before my degree I studied a BTEC in Games Design and Animation at New College Swindon. Studying this at college only cemented my ideas for making this my future career and allowed me to develop some early skills in game engines and other relevant software.

I achieved a D*DD as my final grade for the BTEC which I was very proud of and confirmed my position at the University of Staffordshire studying Computer Games Design.

School

(GCSEs)

Throughout my school years my interest and passion games only grew stronger. When it came time to select my GCSE subjects I was still not certain what I wanted to do long term. I did however have interest in computers and media which can be closely linked to my interest in games.

I studied Media Studies, Computer Science and Information Technology (IT) to name a few. I passed all seven of my GCSEs and begun thinking about what I would do next.

Work

(Other Experience)

As I'm still studying at university I have yet to enter the games industry itself. I have however got some other experience with working which I will discuss here.

Prior to starting university I worked with Digital Writes where I assisted in teaching young people the game engine Unity. To see more details please read my blog post "Working for Digital Writes".

I have also worked at a café part-time which allowed me to strengthen my communication skills and gave me insight into customer service. I'm currently working as a student ambassador for the University of Staffordshire which has further allowed me to grow my confidence.
